Join with us in prayer and support of Haiti.
Dear heavenly father, we need you more than ever. This world is in turmoil. Would you please surround the people in Haiti. These disasters are hard to understand and Lord, we just ask for your provision. These people are us. It could happen in our lives and our communities at any time. Lord, help us rise up and follow what you would have us do. Make yourself known through all of this – through us. Deliver the people from Haiti through this disaster in a way that shines your light to the world! Amen.
Hurricane Matthew made landfall at approximately 7am yesterday, Oct. 4th. It is known as a category 4 hurricane and brought with it torrential rain, widespread flooding, and packed 145 mph sustained winds, with gusts up to 170 mph. CNN reports the main bridge that connects Port-au-Prince with Les Cayes—a city in southern Haiti that was hard hit by the hurricane—collapsed today, which will hamper relief efforts.
Our sister ministry, Wold Concern, is on the ground in Haiti and anxious to reach people in need with emergency supplies and aid. As soon as they’re able to get out and assess the needs, we’ll begin distributing emergency supplies, including shelter materials (tents, metal roofing to repair homes, etc.), two-week supplies of food, and clean water. This costs approximately $48 per family. We also have household water filters that donors can provide for $15 to purify drinking water. The company that gave these will give two for every one given, so two families will receive filters for $15.
