Have you had this happen recently? Someone shows you a short video and it looks incredibly real. You have an initial reaction and then, come to find out, it was never real. It was AI generated.
Because KCIS is your station, we wanted to share some conversations we’ve been having as a team, and let you know our commitment to you in regard to what we air and what we don’t. And, because we want to operate with integrity and transparency, we want to share with you how we’re using Artificial Intelligence to assist us in ministry. We don’t claim to have all the answers, and always appreciate hearing from you. If you have any concerns or additional questions, please let us know by e-mailing comments@kcisradio.com!
We believe that …
- AI is a tool available to Holy Spirit-led believers, but an inadequate substitute for believers who are submitted to the Holy Spirit.
- When AI tools are used by Holy Spirit-led believers, they should exercise biblical wisdom and discernment (James 1:5, Hebrews 5:14).
- AI is only as good as the data that it’s trained on. AI models are trained on huge data-sets that contain many non-Christian assumptions. Conversely, the Holy Spirit leads believers into all truth (John 16:13).
- Our stories matter. We overcome by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of our testimony (Rev. 12:11) People experience life, struggle, redemption and new life, through Jesus (2 Cor 12). AI models do not. Sharing what Jesus had done in our lives has real meaning and significance.
- Things that are spiritual and human should not be replaced by things that are non-spiritual and non-human (2 Cor 10). We fight spiritual battles with weapons that are not of this world.
- God gave the Great Commission (Matt. 28) to the church–to people–and the ways in which we share Jesus with people may be helped by AI, but shouldn’t be relinquished or abdicated to AI.
- Music is made and shared in community–a community of people, sharing heart-to-heart. And Christian music brings the heart of the worshipper in communion to the heart of God.
How does KCIS use AI?
- We only plays songs featuring real, human voices. We don’t knowingly air songs featuring synthetic human voices.
- We will consider playing songs created by Holy Spirit-led, Christian, human artists, using AI as a tool for earlier steps in their planning and creative processes. Examples might include things such as ideation, help with lyrics, etc. using AI. However, final submitted songs, including lyrics and music must be decided upon, written, arranged and performed by humans, through conventional and traditional human means.
- We don’t play songs created entirely within AI engines (i.e. based on prompts to AI).
- We don’t use synthetic voices as DJ’s or Artists. We reserve the right to air commercials on CRISTA Media stations using synthetic voices.
- We reserve the right to use AI as a tool at work, for limited and defined purposes. Examples might include things like AI-powered productivity tools (scheduling, analytics, show preparation, audio and video editing, workflow automation, distribution, etc.).
- We commit to disclosing and publishing how we are using, (and not using), AI on our websites.
