An invitation from Jerry Stewart himself:
It was December of 1999 when during a routine medical exam I was found to have my cancer. I was told that my cancer was so rare that only 1 in a million have it – and that I must be operated on immediately.
It was in the recovery room after the surgery that the doctor gave me the bad news – they had not gotten out all of the tumors – and that those tumors remaining were inoperable.
The Doctor’s plan? There was no plan; radiation would not help me, chemotherapy was not possible, and operating on the tumors would kill me. What was I to do? The doctor said, “Go home, get my affairs in order, and make preparations to die.”
I was then age 51; I had been a Christian for over 30 years; I thought that I was a trusting follower of Christ; but at that moment I had to ask myself, “Who Do I Trust?”
Well, obviously I didn’t die, which is medically unexplainable and I am, perhaps, the longest living survivor of this rare cancer. But the story, this story, is not about the disease, or medicine, or my living. It’s about this question “Who Do We Trust? Who do you trust?”
For these last 12 years, since my news of dying, God has taken me through a number of chapters in my own book of life, and each chapter has forced me to take a serious look at just where I place my trust. This message for “Listener Appreciation Night” will, hopefully, force each of us to settle in our hearts and lives, “Who Do I Trust?”
