“For only we who believe can enter his rest.” Hebrews 4:3
Like any loving parent, the Lord can’t get enough of His kids! He loves you so much that just being with you makes Him happy. And you know what? Being with Him will make you happier, too. Even if you just spend five minutes a day sitting and listening to what He has to say.
We’re easily caught up in trying to please God by doing doing doing for Him, OR we’re distracted by the promise of happiness on social media and entertainment. Both of these things keep us from JUST BEING WITH GOD. While there’s nothing wrong with doing good or enjoying a worthwhile show, let’s remember that God is the only one who can really fill us up.
Instead of making a list of things to do this year to draw closer to the Lord, why not just focus on one thing—spending time with Jesus every day. Sure, you can set time limits on your phone, join a small group at church, enlist an accountability partner for prayer, and start a Read the Bible in One Year plan … but how about keeping it simple so you really will follow through?
Hebrews 12:2 says that Jesus is the one who prompted our faith, and He’s the one who will continue growing it. All we have to do is keep our eyes on Him. Can you trust God enough to do that?
Our New Year’s resolutions really come down to wanting a do-over, a change, to make ourselves new. That’s a noble endeavor—but God says that He is the one who makes all things new.
So all of us who have had that veil removed [who now believe in Jesus and see Him for who He is] can see and reflect the glory of the Lord (talk about being made new!). And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
2 Corinthians 3:18

Try This:
Brew some coffee or tea first thing every morning. Then sit with it in a quiet place, putting your focus on Jesus until you’ve finished the entire mug. You can listen to the Bible or read a passage, listen to your favorite worship songs, or simply be quiet and listen to what the Lord wants to say to you. It’s a guaranteed great way to start your day, and who knows … you may find that it becomes the best part.
