“Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Colossians 3:16
Chapter three in Colossians is rich in wisdom, and this verse reveals the most vital source of wisdom and right living — the Word of Christ. As we allow the Word of Christ to dwell in us richly, we become obedient to the Lord and that brings true wisdom.
How can we allow God’s Word to dwell in us richly? It is quite simple.
- Read or listen to the Bible regularly. Sometimes it is best to read a few verses in the morning that you can reflect on throughout the day. Other times you may want to read longer portions. And you can always download a Bible App and listen to it as you commute or at other convenient times.
- Meditate on God’s Word by praying for understanding, reviewing it during your day, and reading commentaries that bring deeper understanding.
- Apply the Word in your life. The more we read and hear God’s Word, the more it begins to work in our hearts and minds to remind us of what is true and good, and to help our behavior reflect the love of God. The more we choose to obey what the Bible says, the more we will understand it and begin to act more like Christ.
As we live God’s Word, we are filled with joy and being to overflow with gratitude that leads to worship. When this happens, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs is a natural result.
God’s Word is a storehouse of treasures. It tells us how to live. It brings us abundant life and more than enough to share with others.
