Welcome to all my new followers, I’m glad you’re here. I have a few questions for you: . Are you educating yourselves on the root issues and polices that cause disparities, inequity and injustice?  We have to move beyond posting on social media. This will take heart transformation that transcends into action. How are you changing your life? This work is a lifestyle. It’s a marathon not a sprint. You must be committed to the long and difficult work, beyond hashtags and headlines. . We must commit to understand the full context of history in order to make true progress and dismantle systems of oppression. We must ask why don’t we learn the full history in school? . If the people impacted are not involved in decision making process, we need to reimagine the solution and rethink the involvement of POC. I believe in doing this work in a way that centers the full Gospel and voices that have been marginalized. . Now that you know why you are here and the questions I plan to ask you, let me tell you a little more about myself. . My passion for racial reconciliation led me to start @beabridgebuilder in 2016. Today is the beginning of a week off for me…actually our whole team will be taking some time off this week….this has been a crazy season! So I hope you are taking time for yourself, rest! There is pressure from some to be productive in this season, however I would recommend you be present in this season! Think less about your “to do” list and spend more time on your “to be” list. To show up you must come forward boldly with three things. KNOWLEDGE + (radical) EMPATHY + (radical) ACTION. • My heart is so heavy. The weariness I see in the eyes of my people is crushing me. Breath is short and sighs are long and optimistic hope is feeling fleeting. • I’m going to log off for a while but I wanted to leave this here for the thousands in my ear asking what actionable items they can take. • Here is a resource dump, the only thing I can cough up at this point — I haven’t the energy to engage much more at the moment but I hope you’ll make the choice to DO something. • In the words of Angela Davis “it is not enough to be not racist, you must actively be anti racist.” • I implore you to remember — the point of AntiRacism work isn’t to make white people feel they are “doing better” in their positions of privilege and power within this immoral system— it is for them to hold themselves and their white community accountable for addressing and attacking the very system that needs to be destroyed in order for black people to stay alive and to be well. • #RevolutionNow • Head to the link in my bio to find links to all of the resources featured in the sides. Intro! There are so many new followers here in just a weeks time, we are going to do a series of introductions throughout this week, okay? I’ll introduce myself first (as any good host would). Then starting this afternoon we are going to do some homework for the next five days because some of you will have to catch up. And we will end the week, with you telling me about yourselves. Sound good? My name is Austin. I’m a Black woman who is wild, holy and free. I’m a writer, speaker and producer all in the service of Black freedom. In this space, we do not center white people. This account does not exist to teach white people. If all white people unfollowed, we’d be just fine. You are welcome to learn, to listen, to contribute with humility. You are welcome to think and read and grow and process. This space is not for debate or “but what about” or ego. You don’t get cookies for using popular phrases or being mean to newbies or flexing on someone else. You can offer your story. You can offer what you are learning. You can offer a resource that helped you. Dassit. I’m a Black woman who talks about race. I get plenty of hate and condescending stuff and blah blah blah. I’m a big girl. I will defend myself or block. But we will not be deterred. I’m not a gum ball machine. You can ask all the personal questions you want in my DMs or comments but you probably won’t get a response. I have stuff I offer for free- dispensing personal antiracism advice is not one of them. I fight ferociously for racial justice. I also believe in humor. I am a Christian but the kind who likes to cuss. I believe God stands with the oppressed. If you are not a Christian, you are welcome here. There is no religious test at the door. I have a masters in social justice. Im an ordained minister. Ive been doing this a long time. I love this work. It makes me come alive. I’m glad you’re here too.
