Westgate Chapel believes that knowing God is more than knowing about God; that when we draw near to Him, He reveals Himself to us in life-transforming encounters with His presence.
Westgate Chapel’s radio ministry, Experiencing More of God, is committed to encouraging and equipping the people of God to draw near to God, where, in His presence, He can replace our hearts of stone with hearts of flesh…soft and malleable in His hands. It is in His presence that we can be transformed into the likeness and image of Jesus Christ, becoming true ambassadors the Gospel of Christ.
About Alec Rowlands & Westgate Chapel
Alec Rowlands has been the Senior Pastor of Westgate Chapel, in Edmonds, Washington, a suburb of Seattle, for 29 years. Westgate Chapel is a non-denominational, multi-ethnic congregation of 1,800 members that has experienced spiritual renewal since 1992. Born and raised in a pastor’s home in South Africa, as a teenager, Alec witnessed revival in his father’s church which marked his life with a hunger for prayer and for the power of God to transform lives.
Dr. Rowlands has served in the senior pastor role for 37 years; before that, he served as a youth pastor and program director for an inner city ministry called Youth Development, in East Harlem, New York. In both of his senior pastorates, God has used worship, the presence of God, and a corporate prayer ministry to dramatically change the culture of the congregations. The challenge that Alec faces as a pastor is the conservation of spiritual awakening in lives through intentional discipleship.
Alec, and his wife, Rita, have been married for 46 years and have two married daughters and three granddaughters.
His academic interests are discipleship and historical revivals. Alec has a Bachelor’s Degree from Wittenberg University in geography and education, a Master’s Degree in urban studies from Miami University of Ohio and a Master’s Degree in Biblical Literature from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary. Alec completed his Doctor of Ministry at Carey Theological College in Vancouver, BC, with a research project on the theological and historical elements of a Wesleyan-Pentecostal approach to discipleship ministry in the local church.
His personal interests include spending time with his family, flying and riding motorcycles.
